Universal Travellers School Travel Agency, in conjunction with Hoërskool Waterkloof, Hoërskool Zwartkop and HTS Tuine, is planning a rugby week for 2021 that will fit your budget. The tournament is aimed at u/14, u/15 and u/16 B, C and D teams of the bigger schools in Pretoria AS WELL AS the A and B teams of the smaller schools who feel they can benefit from this experience. Next year, 8-12 April 2021 will be the 2nd tournament of its kind and the success of the first one was unbelievable.
Schools that have taken part in the first edition in 2019 were:
- Hoërskool Overkruin
- Hoërskool Zwartkop
- Hoërskool Waterkloof
- HTS Tuine
- CBC Bulawayo – Zimbabwe
- Stephanus Roos Primary School
One of the major benefits of the tournament is that the teams don’t have to stay over and there are no additional expenses for accommodation and transport. Another benefit is that the matches will be played at different venues throughout the city which also assist with the reduced costs. The skills / coaching clinic will also be done in the morning on one of the match days which also save on the transport costs.
The schools where the match days will be hosted are Hoërskool Zwartkop (Centurion area), Hoërskool Waterkloof (Pretoria East) and HTS Tuine (Pretoria North).
The format will be for teams to play 3 matches over 5 days as well as a skills/coaching session where coaches and players will get acquainted to new grids and techniques which they can use in future during their own practice sessions. This will be done in the morning of the first match day with the matches in the late afternoon and evening.
Fixtures for the first day will be given and matches for the 2nd and 3rd match days will be based on a strength vs strength basis, where possible, to ensure matches are equally matched.
During the off days there will be no official programme and the coaches can decide if they want to do any activities with their teams.
We know that the coaches will sacrifice a few days of their holiday and therefore only 1 informal evening will be held where the coaches can interact and braai together.
The costs for the week will be R400,00 per player.
This money will be used to cover the expenses for the tournament (First Aid, Referees, cleaning of facilities, coaches’ honorarium for the coaching clinic, security as well as lunch packs on all 3 match days).
The players will also have the opportunity to get selected for a tour to Ireland during the 2021 September / October holiday. For most of these boys this will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel overseas on an International Rugby tour. Make sure to seize this opportunity.
One of the highlights of this tour is the High Performance coaching session at the Ireland Rugby Academy with former Springbok player, Dan van Zyl.
In 2019 we had the privilege to select 2 teams during the Universal Travellers week to travel to Ireland. This was a combination of a u/14 and u/15 team as well as one u/16 team. They have played against the Galwegian Rugby Club, Coolmine Rugby Club and a Districts team from Kerry. We have won 4 out of 6 games.
It will be a great honour for us if your team will be part of this special week in Pretoria.
